ESPN radio host and co-host of ESPN’s “Highly Questionable” Dan Le Batard appeared as a guest on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” to discuss the departure from ESPN of Bill Simmons, who was an executive producer of ESPN’s hit series “30 for 30,” as well as creator and editor-in-chief of ESPN’s Grantland.
Le Batard stated ESPN is built to make it without the departure of any big-name ESPN voice and if someone is going to command a large sum of money, they better be able to produce a large sum of money in return.
“Anybody can leave the company and the company is designed so that it doesn’t dent the battleship no matter who leaves. And that Bill Simmons, while hugely popular, America’s most popular sportswriter, you also have to make money for the company. That’s how the transaction works.”
