NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” did a mock depiction of the Baltimore Orioles game played to an empty stadium earlier this week.
The sketch makes references to the awkwardness of playing a game with no fans, such as a kiss cam featuring empty seats, a guess the attendance game with an obvious answer, and a hot dog vendor trying to sell hot dogs to no one.
Throughout the sketch, the two Orioles’ announcers keep making very poor word choices that reference the events in the city, such as describing the Orioles’ play with, “Baltimore has just been on fire this week,” describing poor performance in a series against the Toronto Blue Jays as “Baltimore took an absolute beating from the boys in blue,” saying that a black Orioles player “knee grows stronger every day.”
The stadium is not completely empty, as there is a strong police presence, with also interferes with the game, as the city insists that only one Nerf bat be used for the game, and shoot a pop-up out of the air with a military drone.
