Stephen A Smith: White People Offended They Can’t Use ‘N-word’ ‘Need to Get Over That’

On Monday’s “First Take” on ESPN2, co-host Stephen A. Smith reacted to Kentucky basketball player Andrew Harrison saying, “F-ck that n-gga” about Wisconsin player Frank Kaminsky after losing to them in their Final Four matchup on Saturday.

Smith stated that in the African-American community, the “n-word” is used all of the time in a different sense than if it was used by a non-African-American towards an African-American.

“It is something that is communicated amongst one another all the time and that it is something that while it needs to be eradicated from our vernacular, it’s something that repeatedly gets stated and it is not meant in the context that an African-American would embrace it or inhale it as if it were coming from someone white,” Smith said. “Now, I understand that there are a lot of people in America that are a bit put off about that; they are a bit offended by that notion. What I would implore everybody to do is get over that. That is a reality that you’re never going to escape.”
