Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) said that House Republicans “are forbidding Secretary of Homeland Security Johnson from having an organized approach to fighting terrorism” on Monday’s broadcast of “The Rundown with Jose Diaz-Balart,” despite her earlier praise of Senate Democrats for filibustering the House’s bill to fund the agency.
“What is happening now is that the Republicans — the Republicans, let me be very clear — in the House, are forbidding Secretary of Homeland Security Johnson from having an organized approach to fighting terrorism. Obviously, the soft touch, which we spoke of at the counterterrorism meeting that i attended at the white house just a few weeks ago, but also ensuring that our Border Patrol agents, our Customs and Border Protection, the FAA which has, — we have oversight over the ICE officers, the FBI, in terms of its coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, all of our cybersecurity review — our Secretary of Cybersecurity, excuse me, said in a testimony last week before the Homeland Security [Committee], she is devastated and will be devastated in her very crucial work if we don’t have this continued long-range funding so that they can do their planning. What more do our Republican friends not understand? And that’s the question” Jackson Lee stated.
On February 24, Jackson Lee praised Senate Democrats for filibustering the House’s bill that would have funded DHS while stripping funding for the president’s executive action on immigration, saying that they “rightly” “held up and blocked” the funding bill.
