White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said the White House was “very interested” in taking executive action to change the tax code during Monday’s Press Briefing
Earnest was asked about suggestions by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) that the White House could “close corporate loopholes” via executive action.
He said that while he would refer reporters to the Treasury Department and that nothing was imminent, “the president certainly has not indicated any reticence about using his executive authority to try to advance an agenda that benefits middle-class Americans…the president has asked his team to examine the array of executive authorities that are available to him to try to make progress on his goals. So, I’m not in a position to talk about those in any detail, at this point, but the president’s very interested in this avenue, generally.”
