Chicago Sun-Times columnist and Washington Bureau Chief Lynn Sweet said that former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel’s “abrasive personality” and “brashness” in addition to “a rough four years” of governing were hindering Emanuel’s campaign for re-election as Chicago’s Mayor on Wednesday’s broadcast of “The Rundown with Jose Diaz-Balart” on MSNBC.
Sweet reported “I’ve talked to some of his advisers, they think he might squeak through with a point or two over that 50% [to avoid a runoff].”
“He [Emanuel] got here because people saw him in office for four years. And it’s easy to make promises when you’re new, it’s easy to have to answer for a record…but he’s had a rough four years and Rahm Emanuel, as a lot of people know is an abrasive personality, and the brashness in a lot of places in Chicago didn’t play well, especially when he made decisions without a lot of community buy-in, particularly the closing of a few dozen public schools” she stated
