On Monday’s “Fox & Friends” on the Fox News Channel, former U.S. Navy SEAL Rob O’Neill, the purported shooter of Osama bin Laden, offered up what he thought should be the appropriate response to ISIS, as their forces approach the United States’ al-Asad Air Base in Iraq.
“They can call a number of forces there,” O’Neill said. “I think as long as there are U.S. Marines there, some 320 on al-Asad and the fact that they could land a C-17 transport plane there and bring more in, that’s exactly what the Marines are look for because ISIS is nearby, some five miles away. Our Marines are designed to fight an Army. Given the chance to let our Marines step up to ISIS, it shouldn’t take more than a couple of days.”
O’Neill warned if the United States chooses to abandon that post, then ISIS would be better situated to take the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.
“We do have Marines there – like you said 320 of them, mainly trainers and advisors. However, all Marines are riflemen. As long as we have U.S. forces there, we’ll have the capability with our armed drones and gunships to assist, so it won’t be overrun as long as we’re there. If we do decide to back out of al-Asad, it’s my belief that ISIS will overrun that air base and from there, it’s launching pad right into the capital of Baghdad.
