Carol M. Swain, professor of Political Science and Law at Vanderbilt University, declared that campus political correctness “has reached the level that we can no longer have any serious conversations on the most important issues of our day. And our students are indoctrinated…[political correctness] is the highest value” on Monday’s “Laura Ingraham Show.”
Swain addressed the controversy over an op-ed she wrote for the Tennessean entitled “Charlie Hebdo Attacks Prove Critics Were Right About Islam,” she said she “felt that the protest was triggered by the university’s response, no one defended my free speech or my academic freedom…they [the protesters] wanted me fired, I’m sure, and they realized that as a tenured professor, that was impossible. And then the next move was to get me to apologize, and I have no respect for people who apologize for their sincerely held beliefs.”
“[Political correctness] on campus has reached the level that we can no longer have any serious conversations on the most important issues of our day. And our students are indoctrinated into one-[sided] thought patterns and [political correctness] is the highest value” she stated. Swain, who is herself black, added “the way I was treated, that would never happen if I were a black liberal. Al Sharpton would be on campus picketing by now.
