Friday, Fox News Channel’s managing editor of breaking news Shepard Smith abruptly ended a heated exchange with The New York Times’ London bureau chief, Steve Erlanger, by hanging up on him.
Erlanger opened by saying, “Well, we need to be careful in the moments after —,” which visibly angered Smith, who shot back, “You don’t have to tell me that.”
After letting Erlanger speak about the British terror warning for a few minutes, Smith asked, “On what matter did you think we were not careful?”
Erlanger began walking back the comment saying, “I’m not getting in a fight with you,” but Smith ended it by cutting off the reporter after Erlanger said, “I’m sorry, sir, either you’re going to let me talk or you’re not.”
