Representative Steve King (R-IA) said that he “would not be surprised” if Representative Daniel Webster (R-FL) runs against John Boehner (R-OH) for Speaker of the House on Monday’s “Hannity” on the Fox News Channel.
“I’ve been talking to Daniel Webster for about two and a half years on this I would not be surprised to see his name emerge…to be a candidate, also for Speaker.” He added that if more candidates ran, the more representatives would be willing to vote against Boehner.
He also questioned Boehner’s commitment to defunding Obamacare, citing their refusal to allow amendments that would defund the measure. King then stated that the House’s response to the president’s executive action on immigration was following “exactly the same path.” He concluded he couldn’t “reconcile” his oath to defend and protect the Constitution with a vote to re-elect Boehner.
While King said he was uncertain that Republicans would have enough votes to force Boehner to a second ballot, he did think there was “a shot” and cited the growing opposition to Boehner.
