Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Fox News Channel host Greta Van Susteren said the incoming GOP Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) should step down over last weeks controversy that erupted over allegations Scalise spoke at a 2002 white supremacy event.
Van Susteren said, “I think he’s a distraction, but I think this is a huge missed opportunity for the Republican Party. The Republican Party wanted to send a message out there. I don’t know if it was fair to Congressman Scalise or not, but to associate with David Duke is grossly unwise. There’s no secret who David Duke is. I realized this was 12 years ago. He says he was there. some people say he wasn’t there, I don’t know what that is. If you want to send a message to the American people, Republicans and Democrats, this would have been the opportunity to say, he should have stepped aside. Whether it’s fair or not, and send a message that, you know, we’re not going to have this distraction and we really do want to have everybody on board.”
