On the Fox News Channel, Fmr. NYPD Detective Patrick Brosnan argued that New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) “set the tone” in reaction to the murder of two New York City police officers on Saturday.

While he cautioned that the motives of the killer were unknown, he stated “the mayor set the tone, if you want to go loosey-goosey in the city, and you want to disregard some of the laws, if you want to, if not encourage lawbreaking, certainly stand by and by acquiescence condone it, that sets the tone. It sets the landscape and very often, you reap what you sow. And I think what you have here is an instance where an individual, twisted as he very well was, but we don’t know anything yet at this juncture, may very well have had the sense or the conviction that this was the time for him to strike.”
