Sacramento Co., CA Sheriff Scott Jones argued that the president’s planned executive order on immigration would do “nothing to make Americans safe” and was only “deferring the crisis” on Thursday’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto” on the Fox News Channel.
“This deferred action is deferring the crisis. It does nothing to make Americans safe. It does nothing for comprehensive immigration reform, and frankly it’s divisive. So, you’re qualitatively deciding that a certain group of [this] undocumented population has greater value or is in somehow a higher standing…no matter what venue or eventual pathway to immigration reform we do, to be successful has to start with securing the border. So what possible reason could there be for not starting that now?” Jones stated.
He added, “Congress has blame,” but said the individual responsibility falls on the president, “the stated reason for waiting until after [the] midterm elections just demonstrates to me, and I think to many Americans, that it is a political maneuver. And the other thing he could do frankly, is he’s solely responsibility for the hands-off policy that exists in Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection, and ICE, they need to be allowed to do their job, they need to have the staff and resources to do it, and they need the direction that they’re going to take the enforcement actions on the laws that already exist. only only he can do that, and he’s not doing that.”
