Chris Cillizza, Editor of The Washington Post’s The Fix, argued that Sen. Mary Landrieu’s (D-LA) newest attack ad, which uses clips of a speech given by her Republican opponent, Rep. Bill Cassidy “speaks to” Landrieu’s difficult path to re-election on Monday’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” on MSNBC.
Cillizza said that “[in] the full speech, he [Cassidy] comes across as a little bit goofy, but he is a lot more coherent. They definitely took the parts of the speech that make him look worst and built it into an ad,” but added that “almost every campaign ad is taken out of context,” and that such a tactic is “nothing all that new.”
He added, that the ad, “speaks to where, Mary Landrieu, I think, is in this race. she finished the jungle primary on November 4th, last Tuesday one point ahead of Cassidy. A Tea Party candidate got 14% of the votes. This is going to be a hard race for her to win, running ads like this is, I think, an acknowledge of that reality.”
