Cruz: Responsibility Now Falls on Republicans to 'Stand Up and Lead'

Tuesday night on CNN, host Wolf Blitzer asked Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) if he would support Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for Senate Majority leader now that Republicans have taken control of the Senate.

“Well, that’ll be a decision for conference to make, and that’ll be decided next week,” Cruz said. “But I’ll tell you, tonight was a terrific night for Republicans. It was a powerful repudiation of the Obama agenda, the Obama economy which isn’t working.

“And now really, the responsibility falls on Republicans, now that we’ve been handed the majority, for us to stand up and lead, and I very much hope that’s what we do.”

Blitzer then repeated his question, asking why Cruz would not divulge whether or not he would support McConnell.

“Tonight what I’m focused on is the results of this election, which is a resounding Republican majority” Cruz said. “And I would point out that the American people are frustrated with what’s happening in Washington, but now the responsibility falls on us to lead with a positive, bold, optimistic, pro-jobs agenda, and I hope that we see Republicans unite, every Republican unite in the Senate, stand together, and deliver on the promises we’ve been making on the campaign trail.”
