Infectious Disease Specialist: Ebola Czar 'Stagecraft and Politics'

Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Kent Sepkowitz called the selection of “politico” Ron Klain as Ebola czar “stagecraft and politics” on Saturday’s “Melissa Harris-Perry” on MSNBC.

Sepkowitz said “I think any person is going to be fine,” for the position because it is not necessary from a public health standpoint, but rather “stagecraft and politics.”

“Picking a politico to do it, rather than another doctor who talks like a doctor and sounds like a doctor and uses terminology and approaches to the problem, is probably a bad idea” he added.  Although, Sepkowitz then stated he was fine with a political appointment to a political position, but was “disappointed that this is becoming, not a public health issue, but an optics ‘how [are] we going to look?’ issue, and [a] ‘what’s it going to mean to the Senate races?’ issue.”
