SNL Mocks Goodell and Ray Lewis

SNL Mocks Goodell and Ray Lewis

“Saturday Night Live” criticized both the National Football League and analysts Ray Lewis and Shannon Sharpe for their handling of incidents involving NFL players Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson.

The sketch argued that only Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, New York Jets quarterback Michael Vick, and New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton, all of whom have been embroiled in controversies themselves, still supported NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.  Goodell’s attempts at public relations were also mocked.  In the sketch, Goodell misreads a poster that says “We fight 4 women” as “we fight women,” and later thinks that “we fight 4 women” means that their players will be fighting four women at the same time.

Goodell was not SNL’s only target, as former NFL players and current analysts Ray Lewis and Shannon Sharpe were depicted as hypocritical for criticizing the legal troubles of other players when both Lewis and Sharpe have had their run-ins with the law.
