Monday at the Newseum in Washington D.C., former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush launched a new scholars program to help develop presidential leadership qualities. During that announcement, Clinton opened up about how he dealt with having a Republican Congress for six years of his presidency.
Clinton said the only way a good leader moves the country forward and makes deals is for that leader to reach out and develop real relationships with the opposition.
Clinton then told a story about calling then-Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-MS). Lott had just finished criticizing Clinton during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” so Clinton gave him a him a call to tease the Lott.
“I don’t care what he said I cared about or whatever — we could go to work the next week.”
