Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” host Chuck Todd grilled President Barack Obama on his announcement yesterday that he would not use an executive order to grant amnesty to upwards of 5 million illegal immigrants already living in the United States until after the midterms.
Todd asked the president, “What do you tell the person that’s going to get deported before the election, that this decision was essentially made in your hopes of saving a Democratic senate?
When Obama replied, “Well, that’s not the reason.”
Todd interrupted saying “It looks like election year politics.”
He pressed on saying, “So if the public’s not behind you, you’re not taking it? That sounds a little like you’re concerned the public wouldn’t support what you did.”
Obama insisted,“No, no, no, I’m going to act because it’s the right thing for the country. But it’s going to more sustainable and more effective if the public understands what the facts are on immigration, what we’ve done on unaccompanied children, and why it’s necessary.”
