On Friday’s “America’s Newsroom” on the Fox News Channel, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) reacted to three security operators on duty at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi stepping forward and tying U.S. inaction directly to the death of former U.S. ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens.
Gohmert explained the need to determine the truth but he took aim at the alleged strong-arm tactics the Obama administration has used in keeping those involved with the Sept. 11, 2012 incident quiet.
“[I]’ll tell you something else — after over a year, after Benghazi I had an intelligence officer who was working North Africa at the time — Benghazi, I finally saw him, I said where have you been? He said, ‘I have been scared.’ I said, ‘Oh come on. You have never been scared a day in your life.’ He said they have made me scared and I am out of intelligence, out of the government, and so I thought maybe I could say hi now. This is how scary this administration has been to some of our people that have been willing to lay down their lives for their country and they let those people die at Benghazi. They could have gotten planes there sooner. They could have gotten people there sooner. And anybody that knows anything will disregard what some of these high intelligence people have said and will get straight to the truth and it’s great to hear really American heroes come forward like these guys have.
He went on to question some of the other occurrences surrounding the Benghazi incident, including the resignation of then-CIA head David Petraeus.
“Obviously somebody had a vested interest in keeping them quiet,” he continued. “Well, look at Petraeus. We find out that the administration knew about his affair for nearly a year. Why did they sit on it until Petraeus knew of the Susan Rice talking points were a lie and then they run him out so he can’t be out there blasting that? I mean, these people are very insidious to what they have done to some of the true patriots out there on the field and it really needs to be exposed. Martha, I know there are people who say what difference at this point does it make? It makes a difference in saving the lives of patriots for the future.”
