Monday from the Brady Press Briefing Room, President Barack Obama called for calm from protesters and rioters in Ferguson, MO, saying, “Let’s seek to heal, rather than to wound each other,” and added we need to “unite as one America family.”
“I understand the passion and the anger arising over the death Michael Brown,” Obama said but said that is “no excuse’ for looting or “excessive force by police” because he said it’s moments like these our “humanity has been laid bear.”
The president explained in too many communities there is a “gulf of mistrust” between law enforcement and the residents.
He then pointed to his “My Brothers Keeper” initiative which mentors young black men as a possible solution.
Obama also announced that Attorney General Eric Holder will go to Ferguson on Wednesday to meet with investigators and the FBI and “assess the situation.”
