CNN’s “The Lead” anchor Jake Tapper mocked President Obama for his hypocrisy on the treatment of reporters on Thursday. After playing a clip of President Barack Obama’s statement that “here in the United States of America, police should not be bullying or arresting journalists who are just trying to do their jobs,” Tapper shot back, “of course not. Going after journalists for exercising their First Amendment rights, that’s a job for the Justice Department.”
Tapper had a similar reaction on Wednesday night to a tweet from a Justice Department spokesman.
Tapper also criticized the optics of the president’s vacation schedule, saying that there were “perhaps some optics that were troubling,” but he also noted “if the president waited until a moment of perfect calm to take a vacation, of course, he would never take a vacation.”
