Friday at a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing, Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) told her Republican colleagues trying to get to the bottom of a potential violation of federal election law by the Obama administration that they “don’t have a right to know everything in a separation-of-powers government, my friend.”
Norton claimed, “That is the difference between a parliamentary government and a separation-of-powers government.”
Norton was addressing the Obama administration defying Oversight Committee chairman Rep. Darrell Issa’s (R-CA) subpoena of David Simas, the director of the Office of Political Strategy and Outreach, to appear before Congress. Issa has accused Obama’s former labor secretary, Hilda Solis, of breaking the law with a voicemail seeking political donations for the president’s re-election.
