In a speech on the House floor Tuesday, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) slammed President Barack Obama’s foreign police and Secretary of State John Kerry’s announcement that he gets “a little uptight” when he hears politicians talk about American exceptionalism.
“Heaven forbid that we should realize the capability of America, and that there is no other nation in the history of the world that has fought, has lost lives of our military, has spent tremendous amounts of our treasure, not to create an empire, but simply to bring liberty and freedom,” countered Gohmert to Kerry’s criticism of American exceptionalism.
Gohmert turned his criticism to the president’s foreign policy, saying “we’re losing that exceptional status. So perhaps I’ll make our secretary of [state] feel much better and be much prouder…that should make our secretary of state feel very pleased.”
He added that the US is “weaker and far less exceptional in the appearance of the world,” and that the Obama administration “is not adequately protecting the American people.” America’s lack of protection and declining power is reflected in the fact that Attorney General Eric Holder recently told ABC that he was more afraid of a terrorist attack than he has ever been during his time as attorney general.
