Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) stated in an interview on Tuesday’s broadcast of the “Michael Medved Show” that the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas is potentially receiving U.S. taxpayer dollars. He stated that “several hundred million dollars” in foreign aid a year goes to the Palestinian Authority, whose unity government includes Hamas, which has been designated as a terrorist group and this means that Hamas is possibly receiving taxpayer dollars.
Paul argued that foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority should be withheld until Hamas “renounces violence, recognizes Israel, recognizes the previous peace treaties.”
He also criticized suggestions from the State Department that Hamas does not play a role in the Palestinian Authority government as “naïve.” Paul further pointed to reports that the Authority’s unity government is designed “to try to evade our rules on foreign aid.”
