Dick Morris Goes to Bat for Thad Cochran, His Tactics

In an appearance on Thursday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” former disgraced Clinton adviser Dick Morris, also formerly a Fox News contributor but now a host on 1210 AM “The Big Talker” in Philadelphia, said he would have no problem supporting presumptive Mississippi Republican senatorial nominee and current incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran, despite the questionable tactics he implemented in his reelection campaign against State Sen. Chris McDaniel.

Morris downplayed Cochran courting black Democratic voters to host Sean Hannity and insisted Cochran would get a certain percentage of the black vote since Mississippi is a one-party state.

“Oh, I could,” Morris replied. “I could – first of all, Thad usually gets 10 or 20 percent of the black vote. It’s not like he’s a folk hero among blacks. Mississippi is used to one-party primaries that decide everything. It used to be Democrats —“

Morris dismissed McDaniel’s protestations after Tuesday’s tally and warned if voters didn’t let this go, the public would be faced with four more years of Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) as Senate Majority Leader.

“It’s ridiculous – that’s ridiculous, Sean,” he said. “Thad Cochran for all of his flaws, and I supported McDaniel. I worked for him. I raised money for him. I gave money to him. It is no tribute to him to elect a Democrat senator from Mississippi. And we have got to always support the winner of the Republican Primary, otherwise we’ll be blessed with four more years of Harry Reid.”

Hannity protested Morris’ position and pointed to how over-the-top Cochran’s tactics were. Once again, Morris dismissed it, telling those with similar sentiments to Hannity’s to “grow up.”

“Come on, grow up,” Morris said. “Get tough skin – you can’t split the Republican vote.”

He went on to tell Hannity’s viewers that not supporting Cochran would prevent the repeal of ObamaCare and the “dealing with the socialism.”

“Yeah, well, killing ObamaCare is acceptable to me,” Morris added. “Dealing with the socialism that acceptable to me … I’m not going to reward Harry Reid for that by making his majority leader. You think the people who benefit by splitting the Republican Party weren’t the same people that sent out that brochure.”
