Tuesday during an exclusive interview with David Gregory, former president Bill Clinton defended his wife Hillary over the controversy that has erupted since her first book tour misstep when she told ABC News’ Diane Sawyer that her family “came out of the White House not only dead broke but in debt,” adding they had “no money.”
Since then Hillary has made several more comments trying to clarify that have only added fuel to claims she is “out of touch” and causing her husband, who is famous for claiming empathy for economic hardships, to say “she is not out of touch.”
Clinton argued that he had the lowest net worth of any president in the twentieth century when he took office, adding, “The real issue is if you have been fortunate enough to be successful are you now out of touch and insensitive to the agonizing struggle people are facing.”
