In the Republican’s weekly address, House and Energy Commerce Committee Chairman Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) detailed the GOP’s energy strategy starting with legislation to boost natural gas exports and build pipeline infrastructure.
Upton said the bill will “make the most of America’s abundant energy supplies by building pipelines and transmission lines to connect our energy abundance to consumers, and by using our energy strength to fight back against hostile nations who use their resources to hold the rest of the world hostage.”
In response to President Barack Obama’s new EPA rules unveiled last month that will force power plants to cut their carbon emissions by 30 percent by 2030 and allow state officials to decide how best to meet those goals the Michigan congressman said the rules would make it “harder to use all of our American resources, and could well force states to ration energy, which certainly is going to make it more expensive to power our homes and factories.”
