On Wednesday’s “The View” on ABC, co-host Whoopi Goldberg declared commentator Glenn Beck to be an “unlikely ally” of the left, at least on one particular issue.
A day earlier, Beck used his radio show’s opening monologue to credit the left for its criticism of the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq.
“You are right,” he said. “Liberals, you were right. We shouldn’t have.”
This didn’t go unnoticed by Goldberg, who pointed out the back-and-forth between the right and the left on the deteriorating situation in Iraq.
“How about this,” she said. “There’s a huge blame going on about the crisis in Iraq. Dick Cheney and his daughter, Liz, wrote a scathing op-ed attacking Obama for mishandling the situation. The left is firing back saying it was Bush and Cheney got us into this in the first place But there was an unlikely ally that some liberal folks in Glenn Beck, who said, ‘Most people on the left were against going into Iraq. I wasn’t Liberals, you were right. I shouldn’t have.’”
This is the latest chapter of Beck’s association with “The View’s” Goldberg. In June 2009 in an appearance on “The View,” Beck faced criticism from Goldberg, who had called him a “lying sack of dog mess” for mischaracterization of the two’s first encounter on an Amtrak train headed from New York City to the White Correspondents Dinner being held in Washington, D.C.
