Former Gov. Jim Gilmore (R-VA) says the primary election in Virginia’s 7th congressional district that saw relatively unknown David Brat defeat House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) “is reflective of a genuine discontent” and a “legitimate concern among the American community, reflected in the conservative movement and the Republican party that our leaders in Washington just aren’t getting the job done.”
The all but certain election of House Majority Whip Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to the House Leader position to replace Cantor shows that “message is not being received in the House of Representatives.”
Gilmore, who currently heads up Free Congress Foundation, a conservative think-tank, went on to say, “I am concerned that going along to get along is not going to fulfill the concerns of the American people.”
