Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) admitted that the influx of unaccompanied minors at the southern border has strongly hurt prospects for comprehensive immigration reform pushed by him in an interview on Bill Bennett’s Morning in America. McCain declared “what this does [for] those of us who want comprehensive immigration reform…this hurts us badly.”
He also argued that administration has led immigrants to “believe they can stay,” and this is responsible for the massive surge of illegal immigrants. Arizona senior senator further stated that the only way to solve the problem is for the president to declare that “anyone who comes here illegally cannot stay,” which he doubted the administration would do.
