Cybersecurity expert Morgan Wright strongly doubted former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner’s claim that she lost two years of emails sought by Congress for their investigation into inappropriate IRS targeting of Tea Party rules.
He added Lerner’s excuse “doesn’t pass the sniff test, not with the millions of dollars that the government has spent building these back-up systems and not with the millions of dollars I know the IRS has spent with several companies who specialize in electronic discovery so that they can preserve this information. No, that dog doesn’t hunt.” Wright said he could recover the e-mails, and simply declared “give me the hard drive. It’s that simple.”
He concluded “the IRS must think we’re all stupid. The idea that so many people like yourself say that there is no way this could happen in 2014, it is unbelievable that it is the excuse they’ve given.”
