Fox News Channel’s Catherine Herridge reported Mohammad Fazl, one of the five top Taliban commanders that were swapped for U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, played a key role in al Qaeda’s planing of September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
On September 9, 2001, Fazl facilitated the assignation of Northern Alliance commander. Ahmed Shah Massoud in a suicide bombing which the 9/11 commission deemed as the first part of al Qaeda’s three-step plan. Fazi reportedly helped with step two as well which was an coordinated al Qaeda attack with the Taliban against the Northern Alliance.
