MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski and Bloomberg’s Mark Halperin criticized former first lady Hillary Clinton’s comments that she and her husband were “dead broke” when they left the White House. Brzezsinski said the comment was “not just a little tone deaf,” and “shows just how contrived the book is.” She also implored her media compatriots to “stop giving passes, hoping you’re going to get some sort of interview.”
Halperin added, “if it was a Republican getting money from Goldman Sachs, and with corporate ties, and was a Republican frontrunner, they would be eviscerated,” and that the “level of tone deafness” was “a huge caution.” Brzezinski concluded “if I were a middle class American having trouble paying my mortgage and wondering how my kid is going to handle the student debt I would not be excited about this candidate.”
