On Wednesday’s “Hannity,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) urged the White House to take additional measures to increase transparency into the subject of its deal that resulted in the release of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five Guantanamo detainees.
Cruz warned that any further releases from the Guantanamo facility should be halted until all of the facts are out and said he intends to file legislation to ensure that.
“[I]t’s also very troubling to know — what kind of vetting the White House do?” Cruz said. “For example, the White House in my view should release, should declassified the files on the Gitmo five. If they say we should hand terrorists, over, the American people deserve to know what they have done. I’ll tell you Sean, we’re hearing talk they are considering releasing yet another Guantanamo terrorist. I intended next week to file legislation to halt any releases from Guantanamo until we get to the bottom of what happened in Bergdahl and provide real congressional oversight here because it’s really needed.”
