U.S. Army Sgt. Matt Vierkant, who served alongside Bowe Bergdahl, told MSNBC host Ronan Farrow that it should “change things if someone’s a deserter” and that a soldier’s deserter status “makes all the difference in the world” in a discussion on Bergdahl’s release.
He explained to Farrow that he felt “anger and resentment” watching new video of Bergdahl’s transfer into U.S. custody because he was sure “he abandoned us, and deserted.” Vierkant said there were too many questions about Bergdahl to engage in such a swap and urged the president to open an investigation into Bergdahl’s disappearance.
