Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY) said that he was “fed up” with the ongoing scandal at the VA and called for a criminal investigation of the department along with Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki’s resignation.
Israel is the first House Democrat to demand a criminal investigation of the VA. Israel told Jake Tapper, the anchor of CNN’s “The Lead,” that he contacted Attorney General Eric Holder and “demanded that there be a criminal investigation, prosecution, and punishment” earlier today. He added that he believed Secretary Shinseki should resign, but cautioned that Shinseki’s resignation alone is “not going to solve the problem, and that a criminal investigation, and “public-private partnerships” at the VA are key steps to solving the problems at the VA.
