Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, called for a criminal probe over the ongoing scandal at the Department of Veterans Affairs in an interview set to air on Thursday’s “Hugh Hewitt Show.”
Cornyn stated that the VA’s conduct “gives rise to all sorts of concern, including possible criminal conduct,” and “is something that FBI Director [James] Comey and his colleagues need to look at.” Cornyn added that even though the scandal is a “call to arms,” he didn’t have “much confidence in Eric Holder” to conduct the investigation. He did, however, express faith in Comey to oversee an apolitical probe into the VA, and added that after an investigation he would “let the chips fall where they may.”
Cornyn also joined the chorus calling for Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki’s resignation, and argued the VA needs “new leadership.”
