On his Monday night Comedy Central show, “The Daily Show” anchor Jon Stewart opened the program by responding to the latest revelations involving the Department of Veterans Affairs and its shortcoming in tending to veterans needing medical care.

Stewart took aim at President Barack Obama, who was quick to say this should be a priority when he was a candidate for the presidency, but has seemingly not backed up those words with actions as president.

“That wake-up call was seven years ago, but for some reason, we just keep hitting the [expletive] snooze button,” Stewart said. “And really, here’s what disgusts me. Somehow we as a country were able to ship 300,000 troops halfway across the world in just a few months to fight a war that cost us $2 trillion — an amount that didn’t count towards the deficit because we paid for it somehow under the table. Yet for some reason it takes longer than that to get someone hurt in that war needing medical care or reimbursement. all while we profess undying love for their service.”
