House VA Committee Chair Calls for Obama's Direct Involvement in VA Hospital Scandal

On Tuesday’s “The Kelly File” on the Fox News Channel, Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL) called on President Barack Obama to take a more active role in taking the on the recent revelations of the problems that have led to several deaths at Veterans Affairs hospitals.

“While the president may not go to every single VA hospital, he is the person that has ultimate authority over the department of Veterans Affairs,” Miller said. “What I’ve asked him to appoint a bipartisan commission to look into this. What I’m concerned about now is that the floodgates are opened and we’re not going to have an office of inspector general that has the capability to do what needs done because it appears to be systemic and much more widespread than what we originally thought. It’s going to take a much longer look at what’s going on in the Department of Veterans Affairs.”

Miller did not, however, join the calls for Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki’s resignation, stating that there is more to be determined before he would make that call.
