Bill Clinton On Civil Rights: Current Divisions Are Putting Us Back in the 'Dustbin of Old History'

At the 50th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Civil Rights Act former President Bill Clinton slammed voter identification laws by saying requiring a photo ID at the polling place is a way “of restricting the franchise after 50 years of expanding it.”

Clinton also hammered the Supreme Court for the changes to the Voting Rights Act they ruled on last year claiming, “Any time you erect a barrier to political participation based on their race or their physical capacity or their income … it undermines the spirit of the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.”
