In a speech outside the Supreme Court after Wednesday’s “McCutcheon v. FEC” decision striking down a cap on the total amount an individual can contribute to federal candidates, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) compared the campaign finance change to the infamous pro slavery Dred Scott v. Sandford decision and the the pro-segregation Plessy v. Ferguson decision.

Ellison claimed this was democracy for the money not the many and that the Supreme Court ruling was “lurching ever closer, particularly with this monstrosity of a decision today, towards being a plutocratic oligarchy, a nation of billionaires who fund willing pawns who will do their bidding, in this capital of ours right across the street.”
