On “CBS This Morning” on Thursday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made a joint appearance with General Electric Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt to discuss brain science and what that means for concussions in the NFL. Goodell also addressed a number of other issues surrounding the sport including Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman’s outburst, doing away with the extra point after touchdowns and Thursday night NFL games on being aired broadcast networks. But he also reacted to President Barack Obama’s recent remarks to the New Yorker magazine, which he said, “I would not let my son play pro football.”
“One of the things that I have tried to explain on many occasions is that people don’t realize that NFL players are living longer on average than the average male – three years,” Goodell said. “They’re also living a higher quality life from a medical standpoint and a quality of life standpoint. So these are important facts for people to understand. There’s a lot of misinformation out there. Our players – we want to do what we can to help them playing the game and when they leave the game. But our players are doing great. We will always try to do more for our players.”
