Attorney Gen. Eric Holder while testifying before a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on the Justice Department’s FY2014 budget refused to answer when Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) asked if he knew whether federal agents had monitored the phones of members of Congress.
Holder answered that this hearing was not “an appropriate setting” for that topic. Sen. Kirk shot back, “The correct answer would be to say, ‘No, we stayed within our lane, and I am assuring you we did not spy on members of Congress.'”
