Hillary: 'I Take Responsibility' For Benghazi Security

Shortly after leaving an interview with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, CNN’s Elise Labott reported that the Secretary said that “the buck stops” with her and that the President and the Vice President should not be held responsible for the lack of security at the consulate at Benghazi. Labott reported that Clinton was trying to “distance the State Department from the White House” by saying “I take responsibility” for the security levels. Labott went on to say that the Secretary did not feel like the State Department was being “thrown under the bus by the White House” because the State Department is responsible for the security at our overseas facilities. Above is a segment of that interview with Secretary Clinton.

These statements are a striking contrast from President Obama and his advisors’ previous statements concerning the responsibility of the office of the President. President Obama, David Axelrod and Rahm Emmanuel all used the same Harry Truman analogy during a weekend in July in which they all stated that “the buck stops with” the President or the leader of an organization. President Obama specifically said, “Well, here’s what I know, we were just talking about responsibility and as president of the United States, it’s pretty clear to me that I’m responsible for folks who are working in the federal government and you know, Harry Truman said the buck stops with you.”
