Jerry Brown Claims Climate Change Caused CA’s Largest Fire

Governor Jerry Brown went all in on climate change on Friday directly blaming global warming for the seven-day-old Rocky Fire burning in Lake County.

Brown steals from Rahm Emanuel’s Democratic playbook that you never let a serious crisis go to waste. Wildfires remain an enormous problem for the state creating serious environmental and property damage since it joined the Union in 1850.

But in order to advance his big government, alternative energy agenda the governor claims that the largest current fire burning in the Golden State derives from man-made climate change.

The governor cautioned that “This is a wake-up call. We have to start coming to our senses. This is not a game of politics. We need to limit our carbon pollution. These are real lives and real people. This problem cannot be solved year by year.”

Brown suggests that we can moderate California wild fires if we can cut out the carbon pollution.

Periodic droughts, indigenous to the region, exacerbate wildfires. On average, droughts occur every ten years in semi-arid climates. However, droughts don’t reflect climate change in California. Not having droughts would greater suggest that the climate is indeed changing in California.

But Brown insists, “We are now in an extreme weather event.” He cautions, “This is not the way these fires usually behave. If it continues year after year, California can literally burn up.”

Fire officials don’t know what caused the Rocky Fire, but they fear lightning could worsen the situation if it hits land. Daniel Swain, a Stanford University researcher contends that “Things will ignite.”

According to SFGate, nearly 3,600 firefighters have been fighting the blaze, which was 45 percent contained Thursday and burned 69,600 acres. Full containment is expected by late next week.
