A U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations aircrew teamed up with Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents to rescue a Mexican man in the Arizona desert. The man entered the U.S. illegally and became dehydrated and lost.
Emergency service dispatchers notified Welton Station Border Patrol agents in the Yuma Sector on March 25 about a man claiming to be dehydrated in the desert. Officials dispatched an Air and Marine Operations (AMO) aircrew and Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue (BORSTAR) operators to prosecute a search and rescue mission, according to information obtained from Yuma Sector Border Patrol officials.
The AMO aircrew began to search the area east of the Mohawk Mountain Range near the San Cristobal Valley. As the aircrew began the search, they discovered a man walking in the desert. The pilot contacted the ground-based rescue team and guided them to the man’s location.
BORSTAR agents apprehended the man and conducted a medical screening of the subject’s condition. They treated him for dehydration and arrested him for illegally entering the United States, officials stated. The agents transported the Mexican migrant to the Welton Station for processing and removal proceedings according to CBP guidelines.
About 10 days earlier, a Yuma AMO aircrew teamed up with Border Patrol agents to rescue another migrant who was abandoned without food or water in the Arizona desert, Breitbart Texas reported.
Yuma Sector Border Patrol officials received information from Mexican emergency officials about a man lost in the desert on the U.S. side of the Arizona border. The man said he entered the U.S. from the Mexican Federal Highway 2 and had no food or water, according to Yuma Sector officials. Initial attempts to contact the man were unsuccessful.
Border Patrol agents dispatched a BORSTAR rescue team and an AMO aircrew to search for the man. The agents eventually re-established communications. The AMO aircrew with BORSTAR operators and Welton Station Border Patrol agents eventually located the man. He was unable to walk out of the desert hillside area, officials said.
A Border Patrol Emergency Medical Technician evaluated the 34-year-old Mexican national and determined him to be in good health except for being exhausted.
