Mexican authorities announced the arrest of a U.S. citizen suspected of murdering his parents and then fleeing to Mexico to avoid capture. The suspect is the son of former NFL player Barry Bennett.
On Saturday, the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office announced the arrest of 22-year-old Dylan John Bennett. The man is wanted in the U.S. on murder charges for his alleged role in the shooting of his parents 63-year-old Barry and Carol Bennett. The late Bennet played in the NFL from 1978 to 1988 with the Minnesota Vikings, the New Orleans Saints, and the New York Jets.
Authorities in Minnesota found the bodies of the victims inside their home in Long Prairie, Minnesota. There they also found Dylan’s vehicle and inside they found an empty box for a 9mm handgun and ammunition. Soon after authorities named Dylan as their prime suspect.
According to Mexican authorities, they arrested Dylan Bennet in the beach resort area of Cancun in connection with a call of an aggressive individual near the hotel where Dylan was staying. When authorities approached him, Bennett allegedly acted aggressively with Mexican police who arrested him and then identified him as a fugitive sought by the FBI.
On Sunday Mexican authorities took Dylan Bennett to the international airport in Cancun and turned him over to the FBI for his extradition to Minnesota.
