Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents responded to a call from police officers at the Laredo International Airport after they arrested a Canadian national for allegedly attempting to enter the secured area with a handgun. The Canadian man’s immigration visa is reportedly expired.
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) detected a handgun in a carry-on bag being processed through the security checkpoint. The bag allegedly belonged to a Canadian national who was attempting to enter the secured area of the Laredo International Airport on December 1. TSA officials detained the man and contacted Laredo police officers to take him into custody.
Laredo police officers contacted Border Patrol agents after determining an issue with the Canadian national’s immigrant visa. Border Patrol agents responded and confirmed the migrant’s legal status in the U.S. had expired. The agents took the man into custody for being illegally present in the U.S.
TSA officials turned the handgun over to agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE). The agents seized the handgun.
Officials did not report what type of visa the Canadian national previously held. No other information about the suspect has been released as of the time of publication.
Breitbart News reached out to Laredo Sector officials for more information about the migrant’s status, his intended destination, and what possible charges he could be facing. A response was not immediately available.
