El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended a previously deported Mexican national with a violent criminal history and a conviction for sexual battery.
Calexico Station agents observed a man who illegally crossed the border from Mexico not far from the Calexico Port of Entry on Sunday afternoon. The agents contacted the man and arrested him after determining him to be a Mexican national who illegally crossed the border, according to information from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.
The agents transported the man to the Calexico Station where they carried out a biometric background investigation. The investigation identified the man as 34-year-old Antonio Villasenor Nunez. Records revealed Villasenor has a criminal history that includes a 2005 conviction for sexual battery. The court sentenced him to 60 days in prison. Two years later, Villasenor received another conviction — this time for vehicle theft. The court issued a six-month prison sentence. He continued his criminal behavior with a 2009 conviction for providing false identification to a police officer and a 2012 conviction for robbery. He received a two-year prison sentence for the robbery.
Villasenor’s robbery and false ID convictions followed a deportation by immigration officers in 2007. While in prison, he became a member of the Paisa prison gang.
Border Patrol agents turned the Mexican national over to federal investigators who will file criminal charges for illegal re-entry after removal as a convicted felon. If convicted on the charge, Villasenor could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison before being removed from the U.S. again.
